Thoughts for Today

All it takes is one moment.

Thoughts for today …

Yesterday, my day started as a bit of a downer. I overslept and woke up feeling sick, weak, anxious and still exhausted. I did all the things that normally make me feel better- cleaned my house, got ready for the day, made some food… But nothing was pulling me out of the funk. It was then that I took a moment to step back. I began by asking myself what I needed to turn my day around. What my mind and body was telling me. Then I focused on the small, simple things around me. I reflected on my past week, month, and gave thanks to everything wonderful in my life. All it took was 3.2 minutes of reflection and time to myself for things to start happening! As my day continued, the streetcar came exactly as I got to the stop, I ran into a old friend, I got an A on my hardest midterm – it was all smooth sailing.
Most of us are so consumed with work and money and material things that we overlook all of the small and most beautiful aspects of life. We take for granted our family and friends by focusing too much on our “to-do” lists. Most importantly, we take don’t spend enough time reflecting on ourselves. We breeze through our days without thinking too much. My point is, when a day starts out terribly or when you find yourself in a funk… It’s up to you to find your way out. All it takes is one moment to reflect, relax, and rejuvenate. Your life will become much easier and happier if you take the time to focus on what your body and mind need every day. Look after yourself, do what makes YOU happy, recognize what you need … and the rest of your life will just fall into place.
